Glen Eden Multimodal Centre: Transitions

The Tang family's young man
   is actually a brocade-robed immortal.

His literary splendor and free spirit
has lasted the last 600 years.

One can still see the bright moonlit
   face on the house beam;

But the remaining calligraphic ink
threatens to change into clouds and mist.

"GEM’s primary focus has been to offer successful treatment to those that all others can not figure out. As a result establishing relationships has not been the result of ‘social networking’, but of clinical necessity. Working together with funding agencies is a practical necessity and working together with academics and clinicians has frequently been treatment necessity." (Glen Eden)
I’m glad that Isi is looking into a different type of school. I always felt the traditional school was not a good fit for him. He is so intelligent and has much to offer.
If he could have a learning environment more suited to his learning style and spend more time on the things that interest him he would be much happier.

"GLEN EDEN MULTIMODAL CENTRE is dedicated to the innovative application of disciplined scientific thinking, creative personal expression and the enhancement of human potential. Though our main focus is the effective treatment of complex mental health and developmental conditions, our assumption is that the best possible treatment for each individual requires the integration of client centered care with specific questioning, learning and inter disciplinary knowledge. It does not settle for the comfort of standard perceptions but is driven by innovation and the achievement of successes not thought possible before." (School Program)

By the way, I've heard it's going to be Mother's Day very soon; do you want an actual gift, or can I get away with giving you some pebbles or something?

"Since 2006, the Richmond School District has been subsidizing the tuition for some of its students to attend Glen Eden Multi-Modal Treatment Centre. These students were registered at and attending various Richmond Schools but were not experiencing success as they required a highly individualized environment and approach. Glen Eden is a highly specialized setting in the Marpole area of Vancouver that has been designed to provide these accommodations." (Item 6(c) Establishment of a Special  Program [pdf])

To Glen Eden Parents
As you are aware, Glen Eden lost some government funding 3 years ago, and we have been working continuously since that time to have it restored. We were expecting that the Ministry of Education and/or MCFD would address this funding shortage.

However, despite our best efforts, the anticipated assistance has not been forthcoming. Due to the lack of government support, Dr. Brennan has decided that he is no longer willing or able to operate the school program at its current location.

We will therefore be closing our Barnard Street location at the end of August. We are anticipating that we will be able to reopen a program in a different location as soon as possible, but we are unable to guarantee an exact date.

Our first priority is the continued wellbeing of your children and we will do everything we can to maintain the delivery of services in some capacity during this transition.

We understand that this will be a stressful time for your families..."

Question and Answer on the Mountain
Li Bai

Ask me what reason stay green mountain
Smile but not answer heart self idle
Peach blossom flow water far go
Apart have heaven earth in human world
You ask for what reason I stay on the green mountain,
I smile, but do not answer, my heart is at leisure.
Peach blossom is carried far off by flowing water,
Apart, I have heaven and earth in the human world.

Note: an alternative reading of the last line is "apart from" the human world.
Translation by Mark Alexander

Immortal Poet Li Bai, calligraphy (chant)

"An enigmatic species endowed with a “group mind” or collective consciousness, the Vitiosus Semotus Creatura or, as they’re more commonly called, Isbeasts, are a singularly malicious species with a wide range of powers, none of them well understood by members of any other civilization. They are extremely hostile to any living things they come across, often going so far as to “puke” their digestive fluids on researchers or soldiers who approach them.
All Isbeasts are also differentiated from one another by a specific “thought impression” associated with a given individual. The only clear goal in life for the Vitiosus Semotus Creatura is driving all other intelligent life-forms to extinction. These creatures cannot be reasoned with in any way, shape or form, clearly. Further information will be offered as it comes in."
